December 29, 2010–Is there room at the data analytics table for another guest? That’s the question we were left chewing on after reading a recent press release on Business Wire, “Zircon Computing Announces Record High Performance Data Analytics Benchmark Results on SGI Altix UV 1000.”

The release is a hyperbole and statistics filled affair that essentially says this is important because “these benchmark results demonstrate how the Zircon software can accelerate complex data analytics applications in a near-linear scalable manner.” While that makes good copy, that doesn’t feel all that different from the competition. The New Jersey-based Zircon wants to supply us with a lot of confidence in its ability to go head-to-head with proven entities like i2, Kapow, and Digital Reasoning. It’s understandable, though, since we demand everything quickly—even success. However, there is no replacement for an analytic company with a strong track record. That’s not to say young startups aren’t worthwhile in certain cases, but it’s harder to have faith when they aren’t offering years of success.
